Pain in my upper back, shoulders, and neck

Can someone please help me I am getting horrible pain in my upper back, shoulders, and neck. I have tried rubs, ice, and sleep. When I sleep especially on my side it gets worse and my arms go numb. I am in pain and its been like this for months. I am getting horrible cramps in my shoulders and neck help!! I also have bone spurs on my neck from when I cracked it. I am a mess does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to let up even a little bit.

Have you tried a Chiropractor? They worked wonders on me when I was having upper back and migraine troubles.

hi i would have the same problem, and it is on the worst possible place neck and shoulders, ifind even trying to get comfortable at nite a pain,or even working at the computer, you should ask your doc to try you with amitriptlyne they are a muscle relaxant, they dont completely take it away but they do give a lot of relief, i tried all those pain gels they were rubbish i was getting outa bed every 5mins to reapply it. good luck i know it sounds like a asimple problem, but to feel like your back shoulders and neck are in knots is very distressing, good luck let me no how you get on

Sound's like Arthritis,,,
Ask your Dr for some muscle relaxer's.. Maybe some physical therapy might help also....you prolly need an MRI as you might have some nerve involvement...Hope this helps

I ahve had that same pain recently.. I took extra naprosyn and used ehat on it at night anss slept flat without a pillow.. I think the flat without a pillow helped the most.. I hope you feel better soon..hugs Mel

Thaks everyone I will definately try all of the. I have had MRI's now they want me to have an eeg done. I have not been to a chiropractor in a couple years. I have had muscle relaxants and and pain medicine. Thanks for the help I will keep my head up hopefully I will get some sleep and feel better. Thanks all.

High Pamela, I've had a lot of that kind of thing too & found my first line of defense has been chiropractic as others have said. Then I ve found acupuncture really helpful at times too. (also DrSha.com) an awesome person I met about 10 years ago & studied with). some types of physio are good too. I sometimes wonder if expensive tests aren't done just to bring in revenue (OK so I'm very jaded you say?? yes) however they do help us put a name on our health challenges sometimes too & then we know the dr. is doing something to attempt to resolve our pain too.

I know I had accumulated a lot of tension from life's stressors of a whole variety of sources. Even family members who challenge & are less accepting add to my own muscle tension & it's slowly actually going away & significant improvement is showing up.

I really hope you find a good & happy resolution to this.

I would think having the bone spurs removed from neck would help. I have Progressive MS and going to "gentle yoga" classes has helped with neck and shoulder pain. the classes are very gentle and you wouldn't think it would help because you feel no pressue, but it is amazing. Hate to see anyone in pain. My best to you . Hadley

I would say that some of it can be fibromyalgia,but i alsohave a herniated disc in my neck
i only can sleep on myright side.maybe get a mri andsee if there is something else wrong.

I have gone to a chiro for years and the only thing that helps is getting treatment I also have bones spurrs and they are not caused from an adjustment that some people call cracking ....it is caused from osteo arthitis/ injury ..... good luck I would give the chiropractor a try it really works for me...

I am going to try the chiroprator..cause my shoulder pain is back and all they gave me was muscle relaxers and lortab.. I need something to fix it not cover it up (althought i do appreciate the pain meds)...hugs hope you feel better soon (to everyone)..Mel

I recently found a chiropractor who specializes in, not only Chiropractics but massage therapy and accupuncture. She applied the techniques of chiropractics and massage therapy together and has reduced the pain levels by half. Medications have never been effective, but this has helped.
I pray that you are able to find relief.
