BUTTERFLIES AMONG US

LUPUS/Fibromyalgia and more: Support for all

Hey all,
I think I may have experienced my first butterfly rash, but I was curious to hear what everyone else experiences when they get it. I had a recent flare that I'm just getting over, and one day my face on my cheeks and across my nose became warm and blushed. I have had lupus for over 4 years and never had this rash (though I've had other rashes). It lastest less than a day, and I also had a low-grade fever (that lastest about 2 weeks). Does this sound like the infamous "butterfly rash" or no? Thanks!
Kate

this is def it, thats one of the main things that set the docs on to diagnosing me, its not to bad it flares up then goes away, i get discoid lesions on my face which has left deep hair follical scarring over my nose and on my left cheek as long as this doesnt happen you will be ok, xxx

What does a discoid lesion look like? I have a question? I have the rash on my face that is on the cheeks and nose. It's always there and I also have the rash on my neck. Now when I was in the sun, under my lip it cause this round spot and it was red and I think it was the size of a dime or something like that. Then it kind of dried up and had skin that flaked off like a sunburn. But it stayed for awhile. Is that a discoid lesion?

I started testing positive for Lupus just over 12 years ago and I can't remember a time since then that I haven't had that butterfly rash. Almost every picture I've ever been in I had it and it makes me look like I just ran in or something equally as embarrasing....

Just yesterday there was a huge pressure system going over and this was the first time that I had this kind of intense localized situation like you talk about. I've told the doctors about these things but this was the first time I sat there thinking OMGoodness - I just butterflied. I was really out of it all day, I could barely stay conscious. Thats what happens on flare days or at flare altitudes - for me between 2.5 and 10k feet.

For me it was a really intense heat that centered in my cheeks and nose area accompanied by an equally intense feeling of numbness that went from my eyes down into my lip area and from cheek to cheek.

Please avoid the sun!! IT causes flares and exacerbates skin symptoms! My dr actually ribbed me the other day for not using a hat or umbrella because my skin symptoms are ramping up with the small blood dots that grow into raised areas and are sooo painful. It happened in an area I keep covered too... and I stay in doors out of the light most of the time. =/

Take care ya'lls.
